L’Regional councilor for civil protection takes stock after today’s meeting of the Crisis Unit which has been meeting for a week now to monitor the evolution of the bad weather throughout the regional territory.
After the strong thunderstorms during the night and early morning today, May 21st, improvements are expected in the afternoon.
Bad weather, widespread rainfall but slow improvement
“We have been recording since yesterday afternoon widespread rainfallmore continuous and consistent in the central-western part of the Veneto where at times they were also strong with showers and an isolated storm in the Rovigo area, more discontinuous and generally sparse in the eastern part.
There are areas of the Vicenza area where we recorded 110-140 mm in the Vicenza Prealps up to approximately 150 mm in Molini (Lakes) and almost 140 mm in the Grappa area. The part in greatest suffering is that of the Vicenza area where the Montebello and Caldogno rolling basins came into operation. It is also taking over water Colombaretta basin. In the afternoon we expect an improvement as the rainfall clears up.”
The situation in Verona
“River levels have risen – continued the regional councilor – and we are especially monitoring the banks that have been put under pressure by the series of disturbances.”
Some critical situations, as noted by the crisis unit, are “a Marostica where there was a small route as in Sandrigo, and along the Avenale to Asolo and Castelfranco, to Villaverla sul Timonchio and along the Muson a Camposampiero. In the municipality of Dolcè (VR) there are reports of flooding along state road 12 between Ossenigo and Borghetto and theflooding of the Vaio del Ri in the Peri areawhile in Roncade yesterday evening, as a precaution, the H Farm campus was evacuated”.
