Bari, the 19th People’s Festival returns in the name of peace

BARI – «Men and women in search of peace» is the theme of the 19th edition of the people’s festival which will be hosted in Bari from 23 to 26 May. The event, which promotes dialogue between peoples and cultures, will be characterized by some innovations compared to past editions such as the comparison, on the opening day, between the candidates for mayor of Bari which will be preceded by the performance of the Palestinian composer and musician Ramzi Aburedwan who accompanied by his musical ensemble Dal’Ouna and the musicians from Bari Fabrizio Piepoli, Nabil Bey (Radiodervish) and Anna Rita Di Leo, it will range from original compositions to a wide repertoire of Arab and Palestinian music.

If Friday afternoon will be dedicated to schools with performances by students from six institutes in the city scheduled, on Saturday it will be the turn of the French-Cameroonian singer Valérie Èkoumè, who during a masterclass dedicated to African music in which 20 people from 11 will be able to participate years and up, will teach the importance of reading and rhythmic writing along with vocal and percussion technique. The 2024 edition of the event will see the establishment of a prize in memory of Giacomo Princigalli, promoter of intercultural dialogue and protagonist of local and national political life, after whom the Garden of the Mungivacca district where the festival takes place is named. The award intends to support musical, intercultural projects in which music and the arts present themselves as opportunities for meeting and dialogue between people, peoples and cultures that overlook the Mediterranean. Dialogue between peoples also passes through food and the representatives of Ethnic Cook, a project that promotes integration between migrants and the host community, will offer a biscuit decorating workshop with the little ones. The garden that will host the festival was cleaned by volunteers from Legambiente Bari, the Plastic Free association and the Seconda Chance association which creates reintegration opportunities for prisoners.
