via Martiri is increasingly like Russian roulette

ANCONA The dull sound of the metal sheets hitting the asphalt, the thud of a woman’s body being thrown to the ground, then the screams and the blood imprinted on the road. The death toll is two seriously injured‘accident which occurred yesterday afternoon in via Martiri della Resistenza, at the pedestrian crossing not far from the Mattioli Sposi shop. According to the findings of the local policeit was an investment: the scooter driven by a 66-year-old (he was proceeding in the direction of Piano) hit the woman, a 70-year-old, while she was trying to get from one side of Via Martiri to the other.

The rescue

They both ended up violently on the asphalt after the violent impact, which occurred around 3.45pm. Above all, it was the condition of the elderly woman, who was thrown a few meters after the impact, that caused the greatest concern: she was bleeding profusely from her face. Emergency vehicles immediately arrived on site: the Yellow Cross ambulance took the scooter rider to hospital, the Red Cross took the 66-year-old to hospital. They both suffered facial and head trauma. The 118 medical vehicle was also on site.

Given the initial seriousness of the situation, the air ambulance was initially voted up, then the service was canceled also due to the difficulties of finding a point to land. The injured were transferred to the hospital by two ambulances with extremely serious codes. Fortunately they are not life-threatening. The local police officers, who intervened yesterday to manage the road system and carry out initial investigations, will now be able to reconstruct the dynamics of the crash.

The dangers

It is certainly not the first time that Via Martiri has become the scene of serious accidents, often caused by the speed of cars. A very treacherous road for pedestrians trying to cross the road. There is only one passage where the traffic light for weak users is on call. This is the facility located at the intersection with Piazzale della Libertà, near the bus stops where hundreds of students from at least three high schools gather every day. Where the crash occurred yesterday, however, there is no trace of traffic lights for pedestrians. Yet, the bus stop is also located at that point. Crossing the road thus becomes a challenge.
