FANO He lay down on the first platform, Sunday afternoon not far from the train station in Fano, as a train arrived.
The extreme danger
The extremely dangerous situation was resolved by the carabinieri, who for the third time in the space of a few days stopped a forty-six year old from his intentions to end it all. The most recent intervention was carried out by the soldiers of the Fano company, but previously the double decisive action had been carried out by one of their colleagues from the Fossombrone station.
Without a fixed abode, the 46-year-old man is gravitating around the town of Metaurense and is experiencing a condition of great hardship. The photograph of the policeman astride a low wall, trying to dissuade him (and succeeding) from throwing himself into the void last Saturday went viral.
Released from the psychiatry department in Muraglia di Pesaro, at 2.30pm the day before yesterday, the man telephoned the barracks in Fano. From his tone of voice you could sense his strong agitation: “I’m at the station, I’m going to kill myself.”
Kept on the phone
The switchboard operator kept him on the line, while a patrol from the operational and mobile unit reached the train station. The soldiers spotted him about 300 meters away, at the height of a supermarket: once they reached them they raised him up and removed him from the tracks, even though the forty-six-year-old didn’t want to know, while the loudspeaker announced the arrival of a convoy. However, he passed on the second track. The man was entrusted to relatives.
