Messina: The hit-and-run driver who hit a traffic police officer has been identified

The hit-and-run driver who last Saturday, near the Tremestieri junction, had hit a traffic police officer on duty at the Reggio Calabria section who was returning to his home after his shift of duty was identified within a few hours.

This is a 45-year-old man who, after having hit the policeman, currently in a guarded situation, had driven away from the scene of the collision without providing assistance in a large-engined car.

The officers of the Messina Section and Subsection, who intervened at the scene of the accident, carried out the first investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident and to start accurate investigations aimed at tracing the responsible driver, who then fled.

Thanks to the use of sophisticated investigative techniques and making use of video surveillance cameras, the officers managed to track down the person responsible and bring him to justice.

The investigations led to the identification of the vehicle involved, allowing investigators to intercept the driver who in the meantime had attempted to hide the vehicle.

The driver, who was driving with a revoked license, was referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Messina for the crime of very serious road injuries and for the crime of escape and failure to provide assistance. The vehicle was seized and made available to the Judicial Authority.
