‘A well for Africa – Travel photography’ is the title of the event scheduled for Monday 20 May at the ‘Fedele Fuzio’ oratory of the San Pio During the event it will be possible to see, through images, colors and emotions, the journey made last February by Alfredo Urbano, Alessandro Centra and Don Marco Camilletti from Foggia to Africa.
The trip was aimed at finding the two villages where to build the wells thanks to the funds raised through photographic exhibitions, photography courses and spontaneous donations. Together with my friend Donatella they went to Djebacunda and GranTurè Porto. The wells will be drilled there before the rainy season.
Djebacunda is a small village 18 km from Begene made up of two groups of four houses (eight houses in total) a short distance from them. Only a group of houses had a well and a road to take to get water for drinking, washing, washing dishes, cleaning, etc. (lots of water) was really a lot. But the well that already exists in the month of May remains dry. So it was really useful. GranTurè Porto is another small village just 3 km from Bigene which is located on the river (where Alfredo, Antonio and Donatella took a canoe tour) which did not have any working wells. So the kids who go to school in Begene every day (on foot) brought a can of water home from school.
“A small fruit, a little help that together with all those who helped us we managed to achieve, but we don’t want to stop here”, say the promoters of the initiative. “This summer we are organizing some events to raise funds to build other wells or to recover dry wells. Continue to follow us through the various initiatives we are preparing and help us to bear fruit again”.
