Viterbo – We receive and publish – An emotional day in Viterbo yesterday 18 May for the tribute that the community and institutions of Viterbo paid to the memory of Hubert Amyot d’Inville, a French army officer who fell in June 1944 on the outskirts of Viterbo.

The mayor Chiara Frontini and the councilor delegated for relations with the armed forces Giancarlo Martinengo welcomed the French undersecretary of state for defense Patricia Mirallès with whom they took part in the ceremony, on the Cassia nord, at the end of which a plaque in honor was unveiled of the frigate captain, commander of the 1st Marine Rifle Regiment, Amyot d’Inville, who lost his life due to the explosion of a mine while traveling aboard a jeep with some comrades between Montefiascone and Viterbo.

Together with undersecretary Mirallès, the delegate to the memory of the first Free French Division Marie Helène Chatel.
The institutional representatives unveiled the plaque commemorating the officer’s military valor and then proceeded to lay the laurel wreaths.

Also present at the ceremony were the French rear admiral in charge of defense Jerone Theillier, lieutenant Antonio Ciminna, national vice president representing the captain of the vessel Paul Henri Desgrèe du Lou and Raffaele Moncada, former Army complement officer and scholar of military history.
