Encouraging generational change and supporting innovation: these are the objectives of the 78 million euro tender launched by Sicilian region, through the Department of Agriculture, in favor of young entrepreneurs under the age of 41 who are setting up for the first time at the head of an agricultural company. The support consists of a lump sum capital award of 50 thousand euros linked to the presentation of a business development project, both in terms of modernization and new production approaches that are more sustainable in environmental and economic terms.
This is a measure foreseen by the intervention “SRE01 Settlement of young farmers” as part of the “Rural development program of Sicily” which aims to attract new generations to the sector by offering tools that favor the initial stages of settlement including the acquisition of land, capital and knowledge. The aims, as specified in the notice modified compared to the previous version based on the indications shared with representatives of the sector, include the increase in employment, gender equality, social inclusion and local development in rural areas.
Applications for support must be submitted through the Sian portal (National Agricultural Information System) which will be accessible from Tuesday 21 May until 30 September this year. Together with the application for support, the business plan must be presented which will then be evaluated during the investigation and which must frame the starting situation of the establishment, the business idea, the essential stages that characterize the activities and the implementation times, the objectives and results that are intended to be achieved, highlighting those oriented towards economic and environmental sustainability, towards the use of ICT and the indication of the target markets.
