Some of ours readers they tell us one of many inconsistencies and critical issues of local public transport services in Sannio. Readers belong to the category of “commuters”: on working days they must reach the provincial capital from the municipalities of Sannio to be able to carry out their duties in the offices and services on which they depend. Well the commuters in the area a north of Beneventothat of pre-Fortore complain about the following lack of services: the 7:00 Etac bus from San Marco dei Cavoti reaches Benevento along the main road Fortorina; the same return journey at 4.00 pm for pre Fortore takes the Fortorina, but exits immediately at the junction of Pietrelcina and therefore goes back towards San Marco using the old route which also touches not only Padre Pio’s hometown Sannita peach and the other municipalities in the area. The difference is not insignificant, because, as everyone knows, the new Fortorina route runs at a great distance from small inhabited centers so much so that, for example, from the Pietrelcina junction to the inhabited center itself it is approximately 5 kilometres. It is therefore clear that in the morning hours those who have to reach the capital from Pietrelcina, having lacked a train service for decades, have no other option than to use their own car. The same applies, naturally, to the citizens of the other municipalities of pre-Fortore. It goes without saying that the religious tourism towards the places of Father Pio he has no other option in these conditions than to use tourist coaches or private cars. This criticality in the provision of services has an obvious impact on the pockets of commuters.

Our readers, in reporting this situation through our editorial staff, hope for an intervention on the part of the relevant authorities. On the other hand, it is known that the local public transport service presents numerous critical issues, very few municipalities are served on a more or less regular basis, not to mention the condition of commuters in the Caudina Valley, Irpinia and Sannita, who have been deprived of the railway for years of Benevento Cancello, the shortest way to reach Naples as it is parallel to the route of the legendary Roman consular road Via Appia.
