Exhibition, contest and a great author: conceptual photography conquers Siena

In Siena, on Tuesday 21 May at 6.00 pm in the Cortile del Podestà the photographic exhibition “L’ASSENZA (it is not the lack)” will be inaugurated. Special guest Stefano Tommasi

SIENA. Conceptual photography conquers Siena: 80 young people (from 14 to 35 years old) who, from all over Italy, have chosen to participate in the contest THE ABSENCE (is not the lack)national photography competition, promoted by the association FotograficaMente Siena with the Municipality of Siena.

Tuesday 21 May at 6.00 pm in the suggestive Cortile del Podestà the awards ceremony will be held for the winners and – at the same time – the inauguration of the exhibition will take place where the best 38 works are presented (among the 200 that arrived) recommended by a jury of photography professionals made up of members of Photographically Siena: Gianfranco Bernardo, Andrea Lensini, Lucia Lungarella, Gigi Lusini, Luciano Valentini.

The exhibition, which will remain open until June 3rd, will host a special section where some works by one of the most refined contemporary interpreters of conceptual photography will be extraordinarily displayed.

Guest of honor will be Stefano Tommasi, an internationally appreciated and recognized author from Lucca, who with his work offers an excellent example of conceptual art. During the vernissage, Tommasi himself will meet the Sienese public to whom he will present his photography which, without remaining hostage to useless aestheticism, invites people to connect, dialogue, think also thanks to the frequent use of self-portraits, a very unusual subject in this artistic genre.

Stefano Tommasi began his path of artistic research in 2006. He attended technical training courses in Milan and Florence and followed his experimentation in the field of conceptual photography. Winner of the second prize at the national competition “Premio Cascella 2012”. He exhibits his works throughout Italy. He is included in the Italian photographic self-portrait archive (MUSINF), together with famous names of Italian photography.

In November 2019 he successfully exhibited the solo exhibition “I dreams of the mind” at the prestigious Pan Museum (Palazzo delle Arti Naples). In December 2021 you exhibit the solo show “Giorni” at Castel dell’Ovo in Naples.

The project, now in its seventh edition, is conceived and implemented by the association FotograficaMente Siena in collaboration with the Municipality of Siena, and aims to promote the languages ​​of photography and in particular conceptual photography.
