Caserta, 17 May 2024 – Moments of tension and fear this morning at the headquarters of the Municipality of Caserta, located in Piazza Vanvitelli, where an employee attempted to attack a manager responsible for personnel. The man, armed with a knife, tried to break into the manager’s office on the third floor of the City Hall, triggering panic among those present.
According to initial reconstructions, the attacker, visibly altered, attempted to force the door of the manager’s office, who promptly managed to close it, preventing him from entering. Unable to break in, the man vented his anger by violently kicking and stabbing the door, creating a climate of terror inside the municipal headquarters.
Employees, scared and panicked, barricaded themselves in their offices, seeking refuge and protection. The attacker, unable to enter the manager’s office, finally fled, losing track of him.
The police immediately intervened on the scene and started a search for the man, who could still be within the perimeter of the Municipality. The authorities are examining the images from the security cameras to identify the exact dynamics of the incident and track down the attacker.
“It was a morning of great fear – declared one of the municipal employees – We didn’t expect such a violent reaction. Now we hope that the police will be able to capture the man as soon as possible.”
At the moment, the manager under attack has not been injured, thanks to the promptness with which he blocked the door of his office. However, the episode raised serious concerns about security within the City Hall, leading to a reflection on protection measures for municipal staff.
The mayor of Caserta expressed solidarity with the employees involved and assured that all necessary measures will be taken to guarantee safety and tranquility in the workplace. “What happened is unacceptable – commented the mayor – and we will do everything possible to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future.”
