In recent weeks, containers for used clothes have been disappearing from Gallarate, those collected by various companies for self-financing of social reality. The measure was announced a few months ago by the environment councilor Sandro Rech and was motivated by the fact that too many «they consider bins for waste collection”. Since then, various agreements signed by the Municipality with the various companies (of various orientations, religious or secular) have expired, which are four in total, namely Humana, Exodus, City and Health, Po Valley Humanitarian. And now the Municipality moves on to the executive phase, entrusted to the Local Police.
“We carried out inspections and found that the binders had not been taken away,” they said the fines provided for by the highway code are high (173 euros for each unauthorized collector), with the offender being obliged to remove them.
The issue concerned a total of 25 collector “boxes”: in twenty-four of the clothes bins were removed following the warning, only in one case was the removal not carried out, with consequent report sent to the Prefecture for the issuing of the specific ordinance.
Most of the containers in the streets have disappeared, only a few Exodus clothes bins remain, which has an agreement in force until October 2024 (Exodus has however already reduced the number).
Since October only the dedicated bins at the two municipal ecological platforms in via Aleardi and via per Besnate will remain active.
The used clothing sector is very branched, with dozens of acronyms, even if the bulk of the “production” is handled by some large companies and non-profit organizations (in the past the Anci, the association of Municipalities, had proposed shared rules on the topic).
It should be remembered that “door to door” collections are also active: it is advisable to carry out checks on the use of the collected material (in the past we have dealt with fraudulent cases).
