On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), as part of the effective tools to guarantee the well-being of students and to build safe and inclusive spaces, theArches of Catanzaro invites the high schools of the city of Catanzaro to decide through their school councils on the acceptance of the alias career.
Already in recent months Arci Catanzaro has initiated discussions and opened the Rights Desk at the V.Calió Social Center and last summer it organized a well-attended conference on alias careers. The alias career represents a simple procedure available to both high schools and universities and consists of a confidentiality agreement between the student, her family, if a minor, and the school to which she belongs.

The alias career represents a simple procedure available to both high schools and universities and consists of a privacy agreement between the student, his family, if a minor, and the school to which he belongs. AND’ a temporary bureaucratic profile, for exclusively internal usewhich does not involve any legal change in personal details and guarantees the possibility of being recognized within the school community with one’s chosen name, without having to make a mandatory or continuous coming out in front of classmates or teachers.
The unanimous opinion of the jurists consulted by Agedo and GenderLens confirms that the adoption of the Alias Careers Regulation takes place in full compliance with current legislation, in fact its sole purpose is the protection of people’s well-being.
School, according to international studies, can unfortunately become a place where violence and bullying against LGBT+ people produce significant damage to both mental health and academic performance, leading to the abandonment of studies before reaching adulthood.
For some years now, the alias career has entered several Italian schools and universities to guarantee people’s dignity and protect their privacy. Among the good practices in Calabria, for some years now, we remember the Liceo Bernardino Telesio of Cosenza and the University of Calabria*.
We therefore invite the high schools of Catanzaro to also make this choice of civilization their own which strengthens the possibility of each individual to experience a peaceful, safe and welcoming environment, to respect each person in their diversity and uniqueness. Finally, Arciintends not to leave schools alone but will make highly qualified and expert people available free of charge to all high schools that request them in the coming weeks for any clarification regarding alias careers and to support them in the initial phase of their good practices.
