CAMPOSAMPIERO (PADUA) – A night of fear that has just passed throughout the upper part of Padua. Between May 16th and 17th, around 3.20am, the fury of the water and mud caused the banks of the Muson river to break near the hamlet of Rustega di Camposampiero. There is talk of a leak of about twenty meters which spilled water into the countryside, but also into the town centre and all the waste materials that accumulated along the stream during the flood.
Muson floods, families evacuated
Those most affected were via Guizze, via Cime, via Mulino Nuovo. Here the mayor Katia Maccarrone, the firefighters and the police, responding to requests for help from dozens of families ended up underwaterthey did evacuate those people who were in greatest emergency. The operations were carried out by steams of firefighters with alluvial river rescuers from the command of Padua, Vicenza, Belluno, Venice. An amphibious vehicle is arriving from the Verona command and personnel and pumping equipment also from the Emilia Romagna commands. The rescue operations are coordinated by the provincial commander Giuseppe Lomoro. The rescue system of the Padua fire brigade command has been strengthened with the doubling of shifts.
«The families evacuated during the night found shelter with relatives and friends – reports Maccarrone – As a municipality we are available to accommodate difficult cases. An aid station organized by the firefighters was set up in via Guizze. At the moment there are no reported injuries or missing persons. I invite everyone not to take the car as most of the municipal roads are flooded». GThe local Federation police officers are escorting the numerous trucks that are bringing stones to the site of the breakage to restore the damage, albeit temporarily.
Massanzago, flooded electrical substation
The bad weather emergency has created a big problem today, May 17, also in Massanzago where in via Rinaldi an electrical substation was flooded with one meter of water. The area has been evacuated, as the power has not been cut, there is a risk of being electrocuted. In this sense, six families and also the police forces were evacuated. By doing so, specialized personnel will be able to work in complete safety without putting the lives of those present at risk.
