Sanremo, Pd reports: “Doctor asks his patients to vote”

The Sanremo Democratic Party he reported the oncologist to the Medical Association Claudio Battagliacandidate for councilor on the list that supports the centre-right candidacy for mayor Gianni Rolando, because he would have violated ethical principles by asking his patients to vote. “It emerged that Doctor Battaglia sent a letter to his patients asking for electoral consent – we read in a note – leveraging the fact that in the past he treated them after the diagnosis of cancer. For this purpose, the doctor certainly used data patient details collected for treatment reasons and certainly not for electoral advertising purposes”.

According to the Democratic Party “this attitude is not only unacceptable, but also profoundly contrary to the ethical principles that should guide the medical profession”. For this reason, the Medical Association is asked to “intervene to evaluate Dr. Battaglia’s conduct and take the necessary disciplinary measures, which are not limited to a formal warning” and to the list “to distance oneself from this unacceptable behavior and to seriously consider Dr. Battaglia’s position on your list.”

“The letter sent to some ladies, operated by the undersigned – replied Battaglia – is a personal message intended only for them and their families. It refers to a sad moment but also to a result which, thanks to the current professionalism and competence in addition 90% of cases result in recovery. The request to have confidence in my candidacy is also based on the objective data of the ‘good practice’ applied to the disease and, with the commitment for Sanremo of the same good practice also in other sectors”.
