Bakery referred for various irregularities: workers not regularly hired, lack of medical visits, baked products without traceability, and serious sanitation deficiencies

Local authorities have put a bakery in the southern area of Reggio Calabria under the spotlight, after discovering a series of serious violations of labor and health and safety laws. The operation, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Reggio Calabria, together with colleagues from the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit, led to the referral of the owner to the local Public Prosecutor’s Office.

During the inspection, inspectors discovered that the bakery employed two workers without regular contracts. Even more worryingly, these employees had not undergone the mandatory medical examination to verify their suitability for work and had not received workplace safety training as required by law.

But the violations don’t end there. During the operation, 100 kg of bakery products were seized due to the total lack of information on their traceability. Furthermore, serious hygienic-sanitary deficiencies in the structure emerged, so much so that the closure of the bakery on the orders of the competent authorities was inevitable.

Overall, the authorities have imposed criminal sanctions totaling approximately 13 thousand euros, as well as administrative sanctions amounting to approximately 12 thousand euros. In addition, business activity has been suspended with immediate effect.

This latest case of irregular work and violations of sanitation standards raises serious questions about consumer safety and respect for workers’ rights in the region. It is hoped that actions such as these can help ensure a safe and law-abiding working environment for all.
