Wanted for murder in France, arrested in Rimini

Rimini, 17 May 2024 – A 20-year-old French citizen was arrested in Rimini by the State Police on a European arrest warrant issued by France. The man is suspected of illegal possession of firearms and of the murder of a compatriot, which occurred in France on 10 May. After an argument, the young man shot and killed the victim, then fled to Italy. The investigation was launched following the European arrest warrant issued by the French authorities on 15 May. The collaboration between the Italian and French State Police revealed that the suspect could be in Rimini, where he had stayed overnight near the station railway. The Central Operations Service immediately informed the Rimini Flying Squad of the possible presence of the dangerous criminal. However, checks in the hotel where he had stayed with a woman, who was later arrested in France on May 15, gave negative results as the man had already left the facility. Thanks to the coordination of the Central Operational Service of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of Rome, the Flying Squad investigators analyzed all the available information, interviewing witnesses and viewing the recordings of the surveillance cameras. The initial searches gave no results, but the tireless work of the investigators made it possible to discover the suspect had activated an Italian SIM card to use data traffic on your mobile phone. The analysis of camera images and local testimonies indicated that the man was in the Rimini seafront area. After a few hours of searches, the man was identified near viale Regina Elena. Recognized by the Flying Squad officers, he was arrested and taken to the police station for identification. Once his identity was confirmed, he was informed of the arrest in execution of the French warrant and transferred to prison.
