“I didn’t ask permission”

Double commitment for Max Verstappen during the Imola GP, who, without asking permission from the team, will also take part in the virtual 24 hours of the Nurburgring during the weekend.

It is well known among Formula 1 fans that Max Verstappen is also very active in the world of virtual races, but what the three-time world champion will do during the Imola GP taking place this weekend is incredible. During the weekend, the Red Bull standard-bearer will also take part in the 24 hours of the virtual Nurburgring.

Verstappen and the passion for virtual races

Max Verstappen, when he is not busy racing on the track, spends a lot of time on iRacing, a well-known online driving simulator used by several drivers to keep in training between one race and another. The Dutch driver can often be found on Twitch, an online streaming platform, connected until late at night playing the simulator. Even before the Saudi Arabian GP, he had been online until 4am, with viewers wondering whether he should go to bed. Despite this, however, a few hours later he will still win the race, despite the few hours of sleep.

The Dutch champion will take part in the 24 hours of the virtual Nurburgring with the Redline team, an e-sports team sponsored by Red Bull itself, in the hope that he does not lose his mind as has sometimes happened to him in virtual races.

The Dutch phenomenon doesn’t even seem too worried about any eventualities criticisms which he could receive if things go wrong in Imola. “Surely everyone would blame this decision of mine, but I don’t care, the important thing is to go to bed early to be well rested on Sunday.” Verstappen, in all likelihood, will be driving in the virtual race on Saturday evening, after having completed all the procedures relating to qualifying, and on Sunday morning, before preparing for the race which will start on Sunday at 3pm. The Dutch champion will remain inside the paddock throughout the weekendgiven that in Imola he will have a cutting-edge driving simulator available in his motorhome.
