PERUGIA – Rings, earrings, watches and even diamonds. A small treasure valued at almost 16 thousand euros ready to go to auction. The particularity? They are all pieces of crime. Jewels and precious fruits of thefts or seizures: in practice loot and stolen goods left without owners for various reasons. And now those who want will be able to obtain them at significantly lower prices than the market ones. With the Judicial Sales Institute ready to auction off pieces whose history has not been reconstructed or whose sale has been ordered by a judge. Maybe a grandmother’s ring ended up who knows how in a raid in a den of thieves or jewels stolen who knows where and ended up in the Criminal Records Office of the Perugia court.

Thus, next week, Friday 24 May, there will be the first experiment of the auction, with pieces with a total estimated value of 15,367 euros. They range from the “presumably silver” bracelet priced at 8 euros to the automatic, steel men’s wristwatch costing 700 euros. In the middle, another eighty pieces remained without history. A treasure also of memories, including jewels of a religious nature, medals with zodiac signs and initials. But also jewels that for some have had a profound meaning, snatched from their past perhaps by a fool looking for a fix.
There is some wedding ring brought to the altar or the ring that belonged to a certain “SP” or the one that recalls a Bruna perhaps born or married in the spring of 1976. Then there is the medal with the engraving “More than yesterday less than tomorrow”, which perhaps recalls a love that wanted to reach infinity and instead ended up under three blows of a gavel. And also necklaces, chains and even a 0.10 carat natural diamond. A photograph is also available for some objects, so you can understand first what you will be raising your hand for in front of the auctioneer and thus evaluate your offer.
THE AUCTION BASIS
All pieces, however, for which a starting auction is foreseen which however in the second experiment, on 21 June, will no longer be foreseen, so much so that the total sale will drop to just under 9 thousand euros, almost half, with the auction considered “from zero to free offer and intrinsic value”. But, as explained in the notice published in the notice board of the Municipality of Perugia, “if the goods remain unsold even in the second experiment, the sale will be carried out in the following sixty days without a base price”. An affair for which the headquarters of the Judicial Sales Institute is said to be always very busy on auction days, with curiosity then amplified in this case by the particular pieces on sale, which arrived at the Ponte Felcino headquarters after the investigations and decisions of the competent authorities . In addition to the stolen gold, in fact, some of the precious items may also come from seizures, perhaps those carried out at customs, with the owners – as has already happened on some occasions for emblazoned watches – forced to buy back their assets (which in these cases cannot be claimed), obviously hoping to prevail in the bidding competition. As could also happen to those who only now recognize their missing jewels: once the auction has been arranged, those who want the family necklace back must pay.
And what happens to the unsold ones in the end? Except for gold or silver pieces, which perhaps can be melted down, the judge will be able to order the scrapping of precious items that have not sparked anyone’s curiosity or pockets. And the little treasure ends up in the garbage.
