World Hypertension Day is celebrated on May 17, promoted by the World Hypertension League. For the occasion, the ASL Foggia will be together with general practitioners in the workplace to promote cardiovascular prevention and raise awareness of a correct lifestyle.
On Friday 17 May, starting from 10.00 am, general practitioners and young doctors in training will be present in some companies in the area to measure the blood pressure of workers.
They will also be available to explain the correct methods for repeating the measurement at home, to give information on the risk factors related to arterial hypertension (familiarity, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, excessive salt consumption, etc.), on prevention methods and on the alarm bells not to be underestimated.
The stations will be activated at the Rosso Gargano agri-food processing company in Foggia with the doctors Stefano Piscopiello and Dauno Morlino, the Passalacqua agricultural company in Apricena with the doctors Francesco Nardelli and Marco Visconti and at the Prencipe agricultural company in Manfredonia with the doctors Ciro Schiavone and Giacomo Caracciolo.
Arterial hypertension is a condition characterized by high blood pressure exerted on the walls of the arteries. When blood pressure values exceed 140 (for the maximum) and/or 90 (for the minimum), we speak of arterial hypertension. In Italy it represents the main cause of cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction and cerebral stroke, heart failure and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, and contributes to the development of chronic renal failure. Periodic checks are, therefore, fundamental, especially in the over-65 population.
Hence the invitation to regularly check blood pressure and keep it within the recommended levels by adopting healthy lifestyles and taking specific therapies where necessary.
