Particularly at night, the current state of affairs creates problems for passing motorists considering that even the signage is temporary and partly lacking. At the same time, the damaged road surface increases the problems.

«Residents and commuter workers – says the city councilor Vizzi Sguera – who cross that stretch every day have complained about the danger and have asked for the presence of a municipal police patrol at least during this period. The issue needs to be managed better because this temporary nature runs the risk of becoming eternal.” The traffic commissioner Attilio Cappa, for its part, confirmed that initiatives have already been undertaken. «As is well known, the management of the works of the roundabout and the road that will connect Monte Pino to the Pino district is the responsibility of the Eav, therefore we have no say in the matter with the company and for the related works started and not completed. Our competent offices have also officially requested the management of the institution to request the resumption of work. In these days we will monitor that stretch to check if there is a need to implement the existing signs”. According to what was reported by the parties’ technicians, some problems arose related to the electrical systems that needed to be rearranged, including the moving of public lighting poles which required a fairly long process between the Municipality, the client and the company that takes care of the management in the capital.

«Objective of the project – explains the councilor for public works Mario Pasquariello – was precisely that of eliminating the traffic light located at the crossroads for Castelpoto where traffic jams and slowdowns were created especially in the morning both in the direction of the center and outgoing, replacing it with a roundabout. According to initial reports, the first results are encouraging, even if the renovation work is in full swing. It was essential to decongest traffic on the road that connects Benevento to the Caudina Valley and Naples, shortening travel times for motorists and commuters entering and leaving the city. Another non-negligible fact is that this intervention, as is known, does not burden the municipal coffers, because it is the exclusive responsibility and expense of the EAV, under the supervision, however, of the municipal technical sector. We have stipulated a specific agreement with the organization with which we have collaborative relations and which has an interest in alleviating traffic in the area also because it is crossed by its own scheduled buses and above all in eliminating one of the level crossings”. Already in recent months there had been problems raised by residents regarding the method of construction of the new road by the company appointed by the EAV. The inhabitants had rebelled, believing that the material used and the system were unsuitable. Mayor Mastella and councilor Pasquariello intervened in the matter, asking for clarifications and assurances from the leaders of the regional body.
