The 6 kilos of drugs (marijuana) which would have been delivered by courier to Potenza were intercepted by the financiers; a man under arrest
POTENZA – Thanks to a series of preventive checks, they noticed some suspicious packages in transit, “by courier”, in Potenza. Then they stationed themselves in the place indicated for the delivery, a commercial space in the industrial area of the capital, and waited for their recipient to come out into the open. At that point they were able to arrest him with 6 kilos of marijuana in his hands.
Vincenzo Orefice, the 69-year-old of Neapolitan origins, who has been in prison since Monday by the financiers of the Gico di Potenza, is accused of international drug trafficking.
The details of the operation that led to his arrest were illustrated yesterday in a note by Potenza’s chief prosecutor, Francesco Curcio.
The drug, according to what Curcio reported, came from Spain and was identified “following a specific risk analysis carried out by financiers on shipments arriving by courier in the Lucanian capital”.
“In the present case – explained the prosecutor -, the arriving packages contained personal details and fictitious telephone contacts, making it difficult to identify both the sender and the final recipient”.
Having identified the two packages, and verified their contents, the soldiers of the Gico di Potenza were authorized by the prosecutor’s office to “delay” the seizure of the narcotic. «Making it arrive regularly at the collection point», to use it as bait for its recipient. At that point it was a matter of setting up the trap which was sprung on Monday morning. When Orefice showed up at the «fermopoint», where the delivery was scheduled.
In addition to the drugs, the two smartphones in the 69-year-old’s possession were also seized.
«If placed on the market – explains Curcio – the narcotic would have yielded an illicit profit of no less than 30,000 euros».
«The intervention in question – concluded the prosecutor – follows a similar activity carried out, again by the Guardia di Finanza, last March which led to the identification and seizure of 5 parcels coming from Spain containing hashish and products THC-based food for approximately 14 kilos”.
