The 13th edition of the Savona 2024 athletics meeting was held on May 15, 2024. Beautiful performances by the Italian boys, especially 3 in particular who set Italian records on the same day, and what a record!
The first is from Leonardo Fabbri who has been coming off incredible performances in recent weeks and who in 2024 is breaking record after record. This time he threw the shot put to 22.95 meters on his sixth attempt, but with the previous measurements all above 22 meters. He lowered the previous record of Alessandro Andrei, holder since 1987, by 4 centimetres. This performance, the best world performance of the year, places him among the best ever in the history of shot put.
After a wonderful indoor season, expectations on Zaynab Dosso are high, but the girl does not disappoint, in fact she sets the Italian record in the 100 meters in 11″02. She was already the record holder in co-ownership with Manuela Levorato (11 ”14). Zaynab is in excellent shape and for the European Championships she could really make us dream with a heavy medal.
The other athlete expected at this meeting was Mattia Furlani, just 19 years old but who has already made sparks in recent years. On the second jump he achieved 8.36 metres, setting his personal best, as well as a new U20 world record. He did not finish the race due to the very damp platform and as a precaution in view of the next races.
In the men’s 100 meters, Lorenzo Patta ran 10″18 in the heat and then gave up the final due to a muscle problem. Also noteworthy are the performances of Roberto Rigali, third in the final with 10″31, and Matteo Melluzzo, 10″21 in heat. Exceptional guest of the race, the American Bromell, disappointing in the heat, still participates in the final but is also injured, the extent of the injury is not known at the moment.
On the same day, Larissa Iapichino took part in the Kallithea Meeting in Athens and won in her debut competition with 6.65 metres.
