CATANIA – As part of a prevention campaign aimed at protection of health and safety in the workplace And in the food sector, the carabinieri of the station Catania “Nesima“, supported by colleagues from the 12th Regiment “Sicily” and with the collaboration of colleagues from the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Catania, the staff of the local police and the ASP of Catania, they carried out some controls to entrepreneurial activities in the area.
Checks in a workshop
In particular, within amechanical workshop they were found someone irregularities which led to the owner’s complainta 48 year old from CataniaFor “omitted health surveillance” of employees.
In fact, during the inspection of the company the police discovered how the only employee involved in repairing cars was a worker “in black”, without an employment contract: so one was created for the owner huge fine.
The entrepreneur had also avoided subjecting it to the medical examination preventive and periodic, which is carried out within certain deadlines, foreseen by the health surveillance program: this criminally relevant conduct led to the complaint to the judicial authority.
A bakery was also targeted by the police
During another inspectioncarried out in a bakery of the area, the military ascertained how, among the 5 workers present, 4 were “in black”: they worked without an employment contract on the part of the owner, a 47-year-old from Catania, for whom the foreseen huge sanctions.
The woman was also referred to the judicial authorities for “omitted health surveillance” of employees, with contextual temporary suspension of activityuntil the latter takes steps to regularize the deficiencies in question.
Overall, at the end of the checks, it was determined, at the expense of the two owners, fines for 2,846 euros and various administrative sanctions for 10,300 euros.
Checkpoints in Catania
At the conclusion of the activity implemented by the “Nesima” station, as a corollary of the significant operational results already achieved, several checkpoints along the roads of the area, with the aim of raising citizens’ awareness of respect for the Traffic Laws and to combat, above all, undisciplined driving behavior which can create serious dangers for motorists and pedestrians.
Following the checks, the crews then stopped 9 vehicles and identified 16 people, raising 7 administrative sanctions for violations of the Highway Code (driving with an expired license, lack of insurance coverage, failure to carry out periodic inspections)for a total of 1,941 euros. 1 vehicle was also placed under administrative detention and 1 registration certificate was withdrawn.
