MESSINA – Fourteen new operators signed the professionalizing apprenticeship contract with the Messina Transport Company this morning. These are boys and girls under 30, who from next week will be driving the buses in service in the city.
The signing of the contracts, which took place at the ATM headquarters, was attended by the mayor Federico Basile, the deputy mayor Salvatore Mondello, the president of ATM Giuseppe Campagna, together with the councilors of the Board of Directors Carla Grillo and Salvatore Ingegneri, and the general director of the Transport Company Claudio Iozzi.
“Despite a busy morning – said Mayor Basile – I particularly wanted to be here. Your hiring in the Messina Transport Company is already important in itself, but it is even more important because you are young. From today you have the opportunity to make your contribution to the renewal process started four years ago by Atm. The old Transport Company was remembered for the delays and not for the service it offered, today it is a healthy company, completely renewed and still with plenty of room for growth”.
“Today is a celebration and you must be proud of what you are going to do, because each of you is a fundamental element of the overall strategy launched by the municipal administration, in which local public transport has a leading role”, so the deputy mayor Mondello.
“Atm spa – explained President Campagna – continues to grow and we are proud to welcome you into our big family. If today we can implement the number of operators, vehicles and kilometers travelled, it is because we have the support of the municipal administration, with which we are fully sharing objectives and results. In the coming months there will be a further implementation of the local public transport service, which will particularly affect the northern area and the night service. Our mission is to be increasingly closer to the needs of citizens. Always remember – said the president of Atm spa, addressing the young drivers directly – that the true thermometer of the efficiency of the service is the opinion of our customers, which is the only thing that matters to us”.
The CEO of Atm spa Claudio Iozzi also welcomed the 14 new hires and urged them to work with serenity, always following the directives of the company managers.
Most of the 14 new business operators are from Messina, but many of them had been forced to emigrate across the Strait: some to Brescia, some to Lecco, some to Turin. From today the doors of Atm spa have opened wide for them and they can begin a new phase of their lives in their city of origin. Among the new hires, the youngest are called Alberto and Orazio, both born in 1999: “We are ready to start this experience at Atm spa with great enthusiasm”, both declare. Emanuele comes from an experience in Atm Milan, while for Orazio it is the first big professional opportunity and he feels a strong sense of responsibility of working in the Transport Company of the city where he was born. There is also a woman among the new drivers, her name is Emanuela and she will turn 30 next November: “I worked for 5 years at ATM Milan, but I’m finally returning home and I’m ready to give my contribution”.
