Inconvenience and flooding in Cremona due to the water bomb that hit the province this afternoon, 16 May. As announced by the weather alert issued by the Lombardy Region, a strong disturbance hit the area causing heavy flooding on roads, fields and junctions. Several roads were closed to traffic with cars blocked and severe repercussions on traffic. The reports come from all over the province with the Fire Brigade and the Local Police operating with all available means to regulate traffic. Flooded, as usual, is the underpass on Via Eridano. Traffic also blocked on the ring road. Roads closed due to flooding are also reported in towns. In fact, the Mayor of Malagnino Donato Losito warned his citizens not to travel along the completely flooded Malagnino-San Michele stretch a few minutes ago. Hail damage also occurred in the Casalasca area and in the lower Brescia area on the border with Cremona.

The orange alert continues in our area until 00:00 on Friday 17 May due to the risk of precipitation, including downpours and thunderstorms. This was communicated in the bulletin issued by the Lombardy Region (Natural Risk Monitoring Functional Centre) which also signals the continuation, until the next update, of the yellow alert for hydrogeological and hydraulic risk.
A vast depression area remains isolated and semi-stationary over Western Europe, conveying humid and unstable air masses towards Northern Italy on several occasions. In particular, this afternoon there will be a new transit of showers and thunderstorms, the latter also organized and locally of strong intensity. Unlike what happened in the last 24-36 hours, the transit of the phenomena will be more rapid and will end by the evening. In detail, showers and thunderstorms will affect the sectors of the Apennines and the southern plains from the afternoon onwards, spreading quickly towards the North-East in the following hours, thus affecting a large part of the plains and pre-Alpine sectors. It should be noted that there is a greater probability of strong thunderstorms on the eastern plain. At the end of the event, considering the prevalent convective nature of the precipitation, the possibility of local accumulations of up to 50-80 mm is specified.
For tomorrow, May 17th, weak or at most moderate instability is still expected in Lombardy, with the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Alpine and pre-Alpine areas from the afternoon, while occasional involvement of the plains appears. The probability of strong thunderstorms tomorrow remains very low. It should be noted that due to the rainfall that has affected the Po river basin in recent days, a rise in hydrometric levels in the Lombardy stretch is expected in the next few hours. The functional risk monitoring center of the Lombardy Region ensures the monitoring of the evolution of meteorological events and effects on the ground, in support of territorial controls and local authorities.
The state of pre-alert of the Local Police, AEM SpA and Padania Acque SpA therefore continues so that they are ready in case of need. Citizens are invited to pay particular attention in cases where their homes are located in areas easily subject to flooding, as well as to avoid traveling with their own vehicles unless strictly necessary. The municipal Civil Protection offices constantly monitor the evolution of the situation.
