For that attempted extortion aggravated by mafia methods against an entrepreneur, who had managed to obtain the state maritime concession for the management of some piers in the Port of Catanzaro, the DDA requested and obtained immediate judgment against three suspects.
They immediately go to trial, skipping the preliminary hearing filter Antonio Carvelli76 years old, from Isola Capo Rizzuto, Luigi Foschini73 years old, from Crotone, e Luigi Mendicino, 48 years old, from Crotone. According to the accusatory hypotheses, the three threatened him with harmful consequences if he did not comply with their request to pay a sum of money of an unspecified amount. On two occasions in July and August last year, Antonio Carvelli, again according to the prosecution’s hypothesis, visited the entrepreneur: the first time telling him to meet people whose names he did not reveal, people interested in making him a request and the second time Carvelli himself brought Foschini and Mendicino to the businessman and the latter threatened him that he would have to pay them money because some of them “…friends from Catanzaro wanted their cake…”.
Yet another pressure on the entrepreneur and the report to the police station
On 7 September 2023, Antonio Carvelli returned to visit the entrepreneur, insisting that he follow up on the requests made to him, carrying out, according to the DDA, suitable and unequivocally directed acts to obtain an unfair profit for himself and third parties, harming the victim , who would have unduly impoverished herself of the corresponding economic sum, with the aggravating circumstance of having committed the crime to facilitate the ‘Ndrangheta, making the victim perceive the existence of a center of criminal power, taking advantage of Foschini’s historical membership of the Barilari criminal group -Foschini, branch of the Vrenna-Corigliano-Bonaventura gang, a consortium operating in Crotone and neighboring territories. An extortion that did not happen due to the courage of the entrepreneur who reported everything to the police station, allowing detectives and prosecutors to square the alleged extortionists.
