Apollo School Award in Reggio Calabria: the NAMES of the winners

A particularly exciting edition in 2024 Apollo School Literary Artistic Award which culminates, in this phase, in delivery of scholarships to the students of the schools participating in the contest. The award ceremony was full of emotion and involved the entire audience, that of the Perri hall of Palazzo Alvaro, including the jury, who did not hold back or hold back their tears, but not even a lot of laughter.

Students, teachers, school administrators and parents awaited the jury’s verdict, actively participating in the intense afternoon. A particular edition in which the pride of the parents and the emotion of the children was not contained but expressed and given to everyone, in a touching and engaging way. There are two sections of the race Junior And Youngfirst and second level secondary schools respectively, and numerous institutes that this year too wanted to give their students this educational experience which manages to excite them by stimulating imagination, creativity, team spirit and passion for reading.

“The works are all of a high standard and demonstrate the sensitivity and preparation of our young people, as well as their desire to express themselves and get involved”are the words of president of Nuovi Orizzonti, Natalia Spanò.

Junior section

  • Iris Prize (special jury prize awarded to a work that stands out) reference book “Viola e il blu”, video by Singh Kaur and Singh Simrat class III E IC Telesio – Montalbetti
  • Junior Section “Imagine reading” – Story taken from the book “Viola e il Blu” – Francesco Amore class II D, IC Galluppi -Collodi-Bevacqua
  • Junior Section “Create by reading” – Drawing taken from the book “Viola e il Blu” – Marianna Battaglia class III B IC Nosside – Pythagoras
    Junior Section “Ciak…smile at life” – Video “Being unique” – Alessia Spanti and Sara El Gasmi class III E – IC Telesio – Montalbetti.

The texts to read, selected by the association, from which to choose, were “The Adventures of Oliver Twist” – Charles Dickens, “Purple and the Blue” – Matteo Bussola, “Arsenio Lupin. Gentleman thief” – Maurice Leblanc, “Hell explained badly” – Francesco Muzzopappa on which, by choice, the children had to create a drawing or record a short video with their cell phone or camera or produce an elaborate piece of writing.

Young section – short stories

  • 1st place “Scars” by Giulia Nocera class IV CL T.Gullì State High School of Human Sciences and Linguistics
  • 2nd place “Aria d’Aspromonte” by Simone Foti class III E National State Boarding School T.Campanella
  • 3rd place “The oasis of peace” by Alessia Abramo and Maddalena Minniti class V Piria Technical Economic Institute – Ferraris/ Da Empoli.

The latter were asked to develop thought and creativity by developing a short unpublished story. No surprises about the high level of the texts presented which put the jury in difficulty, as stated several times, since they are all stories worthy of mention. The first place winner will then have an extra opportunity to make a short film based on their story.

Present at the ceremony were the members of the jury Daniele Amaddeo – Owner of Librerama, Aldo Sacchetti – Fashion designer, Elena Inuso – Writer, Davide Nucera – Founder of City Now and Editorial Director and the deputy mayors of the Municipality Paolo Brunetti and of the Metropolitan City Carmelo Versace.
