The San Sebastiano gym turns 45: intuition and courage of the managers at the time

The project was presented on May 19, 1979. One year after the celebrations for the 60 years of the birth of Aurora basketball, we are on the eve of the 45th anniversary of the construction of the San Sebastiano gym. The then Polisportiva Aurora presented the project for the construction of the gym at the municipal offices of Jesi. Gym (23 x 35 metres, 7 meters high with adjoining steps) built in the sports complex of San Sebastiano, behind the football field, on land owned by the parish with the then parish priest Don Roberto Vigo who immediately gave consent. At the time the sports facility was the largest in the Jesi area he solved many problems for basketball and volleyball activities. The promoters were the same managers of that basketball club who managed to involve many enthusiasts and athletes from other disciplines as well. At the time, as reported Jesi and its Valley, one manager commented: “It took a good dose of courage, we made an enormous commitment, but it is an obligatory choice if we want our sport to make progress and if we want to achieve results in the competitive field”. Carlo Barchiesi, one of the founders of Aurora basketball, declared at that time: “The important thing is to start. The problem is felt in the city. The children’s parents urge us, push us not to waste time.” Even today we would need managers like then, perhaps to properly renovate the existing one!
