In Puglia special trains for major events: the project is a success

Attend a public event without the stress of looking for a parking space or getting stuck in traffic, arriving at the event location by train: the collaboration between the Puglia Region and the public rail transport companies continues to encourage the use of the train and promote forms of sustainable mobility, in particular towards those events or destinations that attract a large number of people.

The latest initiative promoted was the performance of the Frecce Tricolori in Trani as part of the Air Show 2024 last Sunday. The regional Department for Transport and Sustainable Mobility has in fact financed Trenitalia’s regional offer of six extraordinary connections for that day. The feedback was very positive. Between 11am and 5pm, a total of around 5,340 passengers got off at Trani station, and almost 5,000 people left Trani by train after 5.30pm.

«We are faced with important numbers – commented the Councilor for Transport, Debora Ciliento – which demonstrate that the people of Puglia and tourists have appreciated the proposal, putting aside the skepticism towards the means of collective public transport. This feedback encourages us to move forward and strengthen initiatives of this type. Moreover, the summer season is starting, full of public events and demonstrations in every part of our region, and the department is already negotiating with the railway transport companies for additional extraordinary trains aimed at individual events, starting from the awaited international tender of dives scheduled for the end of June in Polignano a Mare, so as to make them more attractive because they are easily accessible.”
