Today’s edition of “Il Giornale di Sicilia” focuses on Mignani’s possible choices in view of Sampdoria.
Tomorrow evening Palermo will face Sampdoria in what is undoubtedly the most important match of the season so far. Strengthened by the fact that they can play for two results out of three, the Rosanero will adopt a well-defined tactical plan, based on quick counterattacks to make the most of the characteristics of their attacking ends.
The Tactical Plan
Mignani, the Palermo coach, is not obliged to play the game and will leave the ball to the opponents, focusing on counterattacks. This approach has already proven to be effective, as seen last season with Cheddira at Bari and recently with Brunori. The goal against Reggiana is a clear demonstration of the concept of depth that Mignani relies on.
Mignani’s Training and Choices
There are still some issues to resolve regarding the lineup, but Mignani is working to present the most suitable team for this crucial challenge. In goal, Desplanches should keep his place as a starter, a choice indicative of Mignani’s intentions since the end of the championship.
Defence
In defence, Lucioni will be the central of the three, with Ceccaroni on the left, back available after missing the last match as a precaution. Diakité, who has shown good results as a winger in midfield, could be moved back to defence, with Graves ready to fill the central third role if necessary. Di Mariano, back in the group, could be a surprise to use during the match.
Midfield
In the midfield department, Lund is sure of his place on the left wing, while in the middle of the pitch the competition is tighter. With Gomes’ return, there are many candidates for two places. Mignani could opt for a central pairing of Segre and Gomes, with Ranocchia and Di Francesco as attacking midfielders, ready to move into midfield in the defensive phase.
Attack
In attack, Brunori will be the main point of reference, supported by the two attacking midfielders. This lineup should follow that of the last championship match against Südtirol, where Insigne played as one of the two attacking midfielders.
