“On the day of May 13, 2024the soldiers of the GICO of the Financial Police of Potenza arrested, in flagrante delicto, a 69 year old man of Neapolitan originGOLDSMITH Vincenzo, who became responsible for the crime of international drug trafficking, for having imported a total of 6 kg of marijuana from Spain.
The operation arose following a specific risk analysis carried out by financiers on the shipments arriving, by courier, in the Lucanian capital.
In this case, the arriving packages contained fictitious personal data and telephone contacts, making it difficult to identify both the sender and the final recipient.
After identifying the two packages and having verified their contents, the soldiers of the GICO of Potenza, authorized by this Prosecutor’s Office, delayed the seizure of the narcotic, making it arrive regularly at the collection pointestablished at a commercial space located in the industrial area of the Lucanian capital, setting up a surveillance service for its plainclothes soldiers.
In the late morning, GOLDSMITH Vincenzo he showed up at the fermepoint, picking up the two packages containing the narcotic, therefore, in the act of committing the crime he was immediately arrested and taken to the local prison.
They were seized in total, 6 kilos of marijuana and two cellular devices.
If placed on the market, the narcotic would have yielded an illicit profit of no less than 30,000 euros.
The seriousness of the circumstantial framework built allowed the GIP to validate the precautionary measure in place, ordering that the arrested person remain in prison, without prejudice to the presumption of innocence until the last level of judgement.
The intervention in question follows a similar activity carried out, again by the Financial Police, last March which led to the identification and seizure of 5 parcels from Spain containing hashish and tea-based food products weighing approximately 14 kg.
This underlines the particular attention paid by Law enforcement and the judiciary to prevent and combat illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances and, more generally, to the control of the territory”.
