the six points for the city

Six points to plan the Bari of the future between greenery, mobility, rights and decentralization: the mayoral candidate Vito Leccese, supported by the Pd and by 6 other civic lists, illustrated the program he is aiming for outside his electoral committee in via Argiro to govern the city for the next 5 years. Leccese illustrated his projects together with the 5 candidate presidents of the Municipalities who support his coalition.

Among the main points is that of a “green city” by planting 100 thousand trees starting from urban regeneration interventions which will lead to 2 million square meters of green areas and eliminating asphalt where possible. Leccese promotes a “city on the move”, that is, guaranteeing free transport on buses for everyone. “The next administration – explains the candidate – will work for a measure that goes beyond those already launched on an experimental basis in recent years; this will be accompanied by the launch of the BRT in addition to the over 150 green buses circulating every day”. For the “university city”, the aim will be to double the number of beds in student residences, also through the conversion of existing buildings, up to the establishment of the Deputy Municipal Councilor for students.

As part of the city of rights “we range from doubling the number of nursery schools from 11 to 23 to the elimination of architectural barriers in public spaces, as well as the establishment of a councilor delegation for anti-discrimination and LGBQTI+ rights”. The aspect concerning the “city of homes” sees measures to counteract the effects of tourism on the cost of rent for young couples, students and families: the Housing Agency will be strengthened with a view to a new specific plan for Bari, with the increase of 2,000 public residential homes, the conversion of barracks and public buildings into social housing, the promotion of housing vouchers and support for families”. Finally, a polycentric city: “Each neighborhood will have to have its own nursery school, its own family, its library, its youth center and a cultural program capable of animating public spaces and promoting communities, with a view to strengthening the municipalities”.

“Since the coalition chose my candidacy – says Leccese -, we have opened a large participatory construction site of the program inviting all the political, economic, cultural and civil forces of the city to give their contribution in defining the future of Bari. We have before to us twenty-three days in which we don’t have to campaign, but we have to carry out a mission. These elections have unleashed the thirst for revenge of a right that has been losing for twenty years and cannot rest for this reason. And he has decided that since he has no idea, the time has come to win by fixing the game. Voting for us means preventing Bari from returning to cement and asbestos, to crazy traffic, to profiteering, to clientele. Voting for us means continuing to do what has been done up to now with Antonio Decaro. He means continuing, every day, to make this city better.”
