Reclamation, Barberio invites the mayor to a public discussion

CROTONE – Leo Barberio takes the defense of the city councilor Andrea Devona and throws down the gauntlet to the mayor by inviting him to a public discussion to clarify the reclamation of the former industrial area. “The extraordinary city council on the topic of reclamation – claims the provincial secretary of the dems in a note – at the end of the facts was just yet another personal show by the mayor Enzo Voce. To those who, like the representatives of the minority, ask for a clear stance on waste deriving from reclamation outside the region, the mayor responds by arrogantly offending councilors of other political stripes, as in the case of Andrea Devona, leader of the Pdf group in the city council”.

Barberio expresses “full solidarity with Andrea who with stubbornness tries to keep the bar straight on the objective of distancing the disposal of the waste from the reclamation area from the Crotone landfills”. On the other hand, he finds “no justification for the behavior of Mayor Voce who, instead of opening a dialogue on the topic, puts his foot down and closes himself behind the usual slogans and the usual self-narration. At this moment – writes Barberio – the citizens of Crotone would need unity on such a delicate issue on which Eni’s line seems clear and definitive: keeping the waste in Crotone. Enzo Voce should have been the one who would have brought discontent over the delays in the reclamation to the institutions, but at this point I don’t understand whether the protest actually subsided thanks also to Eni’s investments in the city or, more simply, it was all a farce to ride the emotional wave and sit in Piazza della Resistenza”.

“Unfortunately, what emerges from this affair – in the opinion of the dem secretary – is the lack of a real political line within the Municipality of Crotone, because the reclamation issue is, at this moment, a political problem before a technical and legal one , which we in the Democratic Party are trying to resolve by involving society and politics at all levels: local, with the collection of signatures together with the Fuori i Poileni committee; regionally, with the motion of the Pd group of Palazzo Campanella to modify the regional waste plan, and at a national level with the warning sent directly to Eni and the Ministry of the Environment”.

“I would like to involve the mayor but no longer only within the institutional rooms, even in front of ordinary citizens, in a television discussion, moderated by a third-party journalist who asks questions (even uncomfortable ones). I hope – concludes Barberio – you accept my proposal for the good of all the people of Crotone”.
