Galletta: “Energy transition and work, here is our vision for governing Civitavecchia”

“Today we know that by 2025 there will be an end to the use of coal in the Enel energy production plant and the alternative must be something else in the strategic development of the territory, such as the spa, tourist and cultural vocation which, however, to be born, to grow and develop needs to have ideas and projects to develop with a lot of work so as not to undermine the development and growth of future generations in one direction. In the meantime, therefore, we must retrain the workers of the coal-fired energy plant and the coal elsewhere.” Thus begins a long speech by mayoral candidate Roberta Galletta, who addresses important issues such as energy transition and work.

“We believe and above all we see the future of Civitavecchia as an energy production hub – explains Galletta – which uses sustainable technologies, starting from a shared table and from the relationships with Enel for the study on the possibilities of redevelopment of the area on which the plant stands of Torre Nord, and with Tirreno Power for the upgrade of the Torre Sud plant for CO2 capture.

It is necessary to explore all possible production solutions that can integrate with existing infrastructures, to have greater environmental sustainability and to safeguard workers, such as the production of green and blue hydrogen and the development of technology for the exploitation of wave motion. The production of energy from renewable sources, but also from the best and latest generation technologies, is welcome. In fact, we would like to remind you that since 2012 there has been a feasibility study and a prototype for testing already installed in the port of Civitavecchia for the turbines for the production of wave-driven electricity that no one talks about anymore. The project is called Rewec3 which already has proof of being on the right path to obtain energy from the sea useful for the possibility of electrifying the docks of the Port.

We must then also consider all the warehouses in the industrial area and the site of the power plant itself but also above all the roofs of the houses and buildings of the urban fabric of the city, in particular the Feltrinelli area and the roofs of the public offices of the urban fabric of the city to install panels solar.

People’s work is a priority in the management of public affairs and this is why to guarantee employment it is necessary to reverse the balance of power between the Municipal Administration and the realities that determine its economy. In particular, the dispute over the energy transition represents a national strategic issue in which the city must find a leading role. The defense of workers in the current delicate phase must represent the starting point for a new development plan which must be compatible in environmental terms of growth for the prospective employment of new qualified workers, on which Enel must guarantee its commitment for a territory whose vocation it has overturned. It is absolutely necessary to avoid the risk, as happened with Italcementi, of abandonment without any compensation for the community, emerging once and for all from the employment-work blackmail. In the management of employment services, maximum transparency in the management of job opportunities must be a priority, avoiding any risk of clientelistic logic. The Employment Center has been taken away from the city for five years now, a scandal both in terms of transparency and the hardship to which those without work are subjected, forced to take a trip out of the province for essential services. And this is why we will work to ensure that the Employment Center returns to Civitavecchia.

Finally, on the workplace safety front, we are committed to transforming the territory into an excellent workplace in safety, because this city has recently paid a high price in terms of young human lives and it must never happen again. The Port System Authority has activated a memorandum of understanding which will involve the Municipal Administration, extending involvement to all production entities and workplaces, in a common objective of continuous improvement and safeguarding work safety.

We think big for the future of our city because we love our city and this makes us not only proud but also ambitious to be like other European cities and countries that live and work in the energy field while respecting the environment

These are our priorities:

• Interface with Enel, Tirreno Power and any other energy production company that makes concrete commitments for an ecological transition that invests in renewable energy with correct and necessary planning, development in the sector, and landscaping to protect the environment and health of citizens and workers and workers in related industries.

• Resume and develop the turbine project for the production of wave-driven electricity already present in the Port of Civitavecchia, improving air quality

• Adopt all forms of protection of public health and the environment by supporting a firm and decisive no to incinerators and waste-to-energy plants of any size and in any part of the Municipality of Civitavecchia, also by converting other industrial plants already present in the area

• Work and safety at work”.
