San Giuseppe School, green light for the competition – Teramo

TERAMO. The Municipality gives the green light to the procurement procedure for the post-earthquake reconstruction of the San Giuseppe elementary school. The resolution has just been approved by the council which implements the increase in financing necessary for the intervention to bring the students back to the historic site of the center which has been unusable since the end of 2016. After more than eight years from the closure, with the students’ move to Molinari, the administration has closed the preliminary phase for the awarding of the 6.7 million euro works.
The measure adopted by the council is based on investigations relating to the repair of the damage caused by the earthquakes and the anti-seismic adaptation of the building adjacent to the old stadium. The checks during the planning stage revealed higher costs compared to the initial allocation foreseen by the commissioner structure for the post-earthquake situation in Central Italy. The restoration of San Giuseppe was, in fact, included in the ordinance of 6 May 2021 signed by the then commissioner Giovanni Legnini and which entrusted the city administration with the management of the reconstruction procedures for four other schools, for the historic headquarters of the Braga musical institute in Piazza Verdi and for the town hall in Piazza Orsini.
The sum allocated for the intervention, just over 4.1 million, proved insufficient in light of the project results. For this reason, last year the administration forwarded the request to integrate the financing. The Special Office for Reconstruction examined the request, requesting clarifications on the basis of which it was possible to unblock the increase in the contribution. This was decided at the end of April by the institutional coordination cabin convened by the current post-earthquake commissioner Guido Castelli which allocated 2.6 million more to the intervention. In the resolution that implements the increase in resources, the council mandates the manager who manages the post-earthquake practices and the person in charge of the procedure to prepare «without delay the relevant management obligations, in order to guarantee the start of reconstruction with extreme speed. ». The offices will therefore be able to publish the tender notice by the end of the month. «With the resolution we have completed the procedure relating to the project and the necessary financing», underlines the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto«confirming the fact, as we have always maintained, that the first allocation allocated was indicative and not calibrated on the actual needs that emerged in the planning phase».
