There are no plans to close the emergency room of the Cervello hospital in Palermo, nor to merge it with that of Villa Sofia, in view of future renovation works that will involve the emergency-urgency area. This was reiterated during a meeting held in the regional health department between the councilor, the managers of the strategic planning and Dasoe departments together with the top management of the hospital company.
The company management has announced that it is examining two design hypotheses for the works and within two weeks it will choose the most suitable one to guarantee continuity of care. The final decision will be made during a new meeting scheduled in the department at the end of the month.
As regards the lack of staff, similar to that of many other emergency-urgency structures both at a regional and national level, it will be essential to resort to additional services from doctors also from other complex units, aimed at guaranteeing the necessary continuity of care.
