The UNIVPM Polytechnic University of Marche has published a new announcement to award the Degree Prize in memory of the engineers Manuel Biagiola and Huub Pistoor.
The lives of our comrades were interrupted in the Marche in 2019 by road violence, failure to respect road and work rules. Manuel was hit and killed by a motorist while he was returning home on his motorbike from work in Potenza Picena. Huub was hit and killed while returning from work near Jesi: a trailer detached from the tractor of a truck and hit his car. They were two people who carried out their profession with passion. A nice way to honor their memory and raise awareness on the issues of prevention and road safety is the decision taken by the Academic Senate of the Polytechnic University of Marche. It has established a degree prize in their memory to be awarded to a Master’s Thesis obtained at UNIVPM in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer and Automation Engineering or Environmental Engineering on topics relating to: sustainable mobility, road and infrastructure design safe, technological innovations for the prevention of road accidents, urban mobility projects respecting road safety and environmental impact. The call is annual and was published recently with a deadline of 10 July 2024.
The families of the two engineers express their gratitude: “We hope that initiatives like this can help to spread the culture of prevention, to draw the attention of citizens and institutions to the fundamental rights to health and life which must also be protected on the roads. We owe it to the many victims, still over three thousand every year in our country, and to all citizens who use the road. Thanks to the teachers and students who dedicate themselves to projects and research to defend life.”
