Grosseto. In recent days, the mayor and the president of the Grosseto municipal council have started a series of institutional contacts aimed at safeguard the Ce.Mi.Vet. from any downsizing hypothesis.

It was sent in recent days a letter to the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army to request a meeting: it will be scheduled shortly.

Meanwhile, this morning the city council approved unanimously an agenda to safeguard Cemivet from any possible downsizing. The text recalls how the center is today considered the main equine breeding farm of the Italian Army and a center of excellence. The current Military Veterinary Center was established by royal decree on 11 November 1870, covering 4,500 hectares, as one of the four depots in Italy, home to the production, breeding and training of horses destined for the departments of the ‘Italian army. To date, Grosseto remains the only Italian center where Army horses are born and bred for institutional purposes, competitive sporting activity and the training of students of military academies.

Cemivet, recalls the note filed and approved by the Council, has also obtained recognition from the Ministry of Agricultural, Forestry and Tourism Policies as best breeding in the country of Italian Sella breed horses. The agenda binds the mayor and the council“to raise awareness among the Ministry of Defense and the military leaders so as to maintain and encourage the strengthening of the activities carried out within the Ce.Mi.Vet, some of which we have seen have a strong social impact”. Furthermore, the document commits the mayor and council, considering the identity and employment value, to “prevent the transfer of Ce.Mi.Vet’s horse breeding activity from Grosseto to other locations”.

At Ce.Mi.Vet, it was granted on 7 October 2019 honorary citizenship. Furthermore, on February 3 last year the entire city council was held inside the military structure.
