Natisone, the search for the 25-year-old continues. The families: ‘They could have been saved’

If the operations remain unsuccessful, assessments will be made on Sunday evening at the end of the tenth day: the search for Cristian Molnar will not stop but the same number of men will no longer be mobilized with land and sea means of each corps and volunteers. The lawyer of the boy’s family, Gaetano Laghi, speaks of “underestimation of the initial situation”: the management by 112 of the three phone calls in which Patrizia Cormos asked for emergency assistance is being targeted

The search continues unabated for Cristian Molnar, the 25-year-old overwhelmed by the flood of the Natisone river last May 31st together with Patrizia Cormos (20 years old) and Bianca Doros (23 years old), whose bodies were found on June 2nd. Meanwhile, the lawyer of the boy’s family, Gaetano Laghi, after reaching Premariacco (Udine) and inspecting the places of the tragedy, attacked: “If the help had started promptly, that is, at the moment in which poor Patrizia requested it, today the kids would be alive and at home with their parents.”

The research

The rescuers looking for Cristian Molnar, favored by the good weather, have sectioned the stream in order to proceed – now that the visibility conditions allow it – going by exclusion from the Roman bridge towards the valley. The fire brigade divers in the water, the river workers on the surface, the civil protection volunteers on the banks, are mapping all the areas, proceeding progressively in sections towards the confluence with the Torre. At the weekend the set-up will remain unchanged. If the searches remain unsuccessful, tomorrow evening at the end of the tenth day of searches some evaluations will be made: the operations will not be interrupted but the same men will no longer be mobilized with land and sea means of each corps and the many volunteers who search the area every day. ‘area. Also because the weather forecast is expected to worsen, with new risks. The effort was impressive: eighty to one hundred rescuers moved every day with helicopters, drones, boats and dog units.

The lawyer: “The request for help was underestimated”

“After having also carried out an inspection in the location of the tragedy, I am very struck by the underestimation of the initial situation – continued the lawyer Laghi – I would expect such preparation from those responsible for receiving telephone calls and requests for help that, having news of a person who is in that precise place, knows how to intervene. Perhaps those first moments of underestimation of the danger led to the boys not being saved in time.”

112 in the sights

In the crosshairs is the single emergency number 112 which – according to the lawyers of Cristian Molnar’s family – would not have handled the three phone calls in which Patrizia Cormos asked for emergency assistance in the best possible way. According to the lawyer, the medical helicopter was supposed to take off at 1.29pm from Campoformido (an eight-minute flight from the Roman bridge) in place of Drago, the Venice fire brigade aircraft, which was alerted immediately but took off a few minutes after 2pm, perhaps just as the three boys were swept away by the current. But it will be the Prosecutor’s Office that will establish whether there have been human errors or errors in the protocol, after having already specified that it is looking for any conduct of omission, not of commission. “I am intimately convinced that if the rescue had started promptly today the boys would be alive”, insisted the lawyer.
