Last weekend, on Lake Piediluco (Terni), the second 2024 national rowing meeting took place aimed at all competitive categories (U17, U19, U23/U23 light weights, light weights, Senior and Pararowing).
The sports group of the “Carrino” firefighters of Brindisi, rowing section, was present with the qualified athletes during the second selective regional regatta who obtained the participation pass to the event, being able to demonstrate their value on the prestigious Umbrian lake.
The boys achieved the following results:
1x (single) U17 men, with Francesco TANZARELLA after winning the qualifying heat, a semi-final as a great athlete, obtains a fantastic silver medal after a hard-fought race until the last few strokes;
While with 8+ (eight with coxswain) U17 men, again led by the athlete Francesco TANZARELLA, fail to enter the final by a few seconds, they have to settle for a first place in the B final.
The 2- (two without) U23 men, with Nicola CENTONZE and Davide PALAZZO, obtain a good 8th place in the final, considering that CENTONZE is in the first year of this category and PALAZZO is still U19, therefore grouped with older athletes and with more experience;
Furthermore, always the same pairing, the following day, in the 2- (two without) U23 PL (lightweight) they obtained a third place in the A final, winning a Bronze medal.
Francesca MARTIGNANO with 8+ (eight with coxswain) female U17 mixed with other companies, obtained a fourth place in the Final, missing the podium by less than 2 seconds;
While 4x mixed (four sculls) female U17 with MARTIGNANO Francesca, 1 unfortunately due to a timing problem, the 2 races eight with and four sculls too close together, were unable to get to the starting blocks to compete in the race.
Positive outcome after the second national event in 2024 for the Brindisi fire brigade sports group, which manages to bring home excellent results in view of the Italian Championships scheduled for this summer in Varese.
