where in Sicily is the beach now (almost) without sand

The Agrigento coast is full of coastal ideas to visit, touch and, in summer, live in symbiosis with the Mediterranean Sea. We take you to Piana Grande

«How many times – while traveling along state road 115 – have you read the signs for the beaches of Piana Grande, Seccagrande, Bovo Marina, Borgo Bonsignore, Giallonardo and many others?

The Agrigento coast is full of coastal ideas to visit, touch and, in summer (above all), live in symbiosis with the Mediterranean Sea.

Once you leave Ribera – about 10 km from the center – the first beach to “enjoy” is Great Plain.

The “brown” indication is quite intriguing. The attentive observer has the tourist “duty” to enjoy a small stretch four km long. The beauties of Menfita and Sacce are far away, an abandoned reflection in sweet past memories.

The distance to the turquoise waters is about a handful of meters, a descent with a couple of hairpin bends and then, suddenly, the appetizer is served. From the first lines it strikes the wild environment“rough” and poorly served.

Not for all. A few kilometers away, for example Seccagrandein addition to offering services suited to the needs of tourists and “summer” residents, gives the possibility of planning a period of rest (even a long one).

Returning to the story of Piana Grande, the “calm chaos” pierces the emotional thoughts of visitors.

The reference colors are harsh green combined with an intense blue tint. A meeting, a natural passage not to be underestimated.

The roundness of the rocky promontories in front preserve a small part of Mediterranean scrub. For many they are the “classic” Sicilian weeds, while for others they represent light stretches of green lung. The sea glitters, splendid in its sinuous shapes. It bangs against the pebbles and gravel, “communicating” a harmonious sound.

Sand is missing. He is (almost) absent, with irrelevant presences. To make it “different” from the usual Sicilian canons. Maybe not.

Trace the shame of White Jackets, near Memphis. In a geographical context it is important to specify the proximity to the mouth of the Verdura River. It opens up to new geological scenarios that deserve their “humble” space for in-depth study. The place is uncontaminated (except for a few glimpses), it is filled with details to be discovered, slowly, minute after minute.

A walk to the east, another to the west to scrutinize every single “piece” of the coast. When the sirocco wind blows from Africa, everything changes. Relaxation leaves room for new ideas. The climate is bizarre, never banal. Monotony is absent.

Behind those waters interesting stories are told, which have left treasures of inestimable value. An event that happened many years ago, precisely in 1906. The time has come for a shot. This too will be history.

Some plants with green stems and yellow flowers grow spontaneously on the beach. They are scattered. They also enjoy moments of fame – an image that links the two environments: land and sea.

Piana Grande – in the splendid scenery in which it is located – is the perfect synthesis of a still unexplored, little-known Sicily. Someone took advantage of this to deface it – over time – with garbage bags.

A ruin, the usual one, of an environment perforated in the heart without interests or conscience. Notoriety is not a prerogative coveted by the place.

Among the least traveled and little publicized, it has kept its physiognomy intact. Few buildings, an “abstract” condition compared to those defined as “cult”. Because in the background yes feel the roar of the seas even and without the liking stars.
