Prati di Tivo, great celebration for the Giro – Teramo

PIETRACAMELA . A day of pink celebration that will remain etched in the memory of the Teramo mountains. It was the arrival, last Saturday, in Prati di Tivo of the stage of the Giro d’Italia which started from Spoleto and which saw the triumph of the Slovenian climber Tadej Pogacar, but above all the redemption of a tourist resort that has been praised by the national press and by industry professionals for its natural beauty, organization and great potential. An arrival in the woods and under “the sleeping giant” who showed himself with a snow hat in all his majesty and with a community mobilized to warmly welcome the pink caravan and cycling greats of the past such as Francesco Moser.
Every corner was treated with embellishments and thousands of visitors from all over the region attended an event that had been missing for 49 years. «It is difficult to find the right words to express the emotion of the Giro d’Italia which arrived in Prati di Tivo», wrote the mayor Antonio Villani which awarded the winner of the stage, «a party for everyone with people along the road, campers, cars, bicycles, walkers, kebabs and barbecues. No personal merit other than the good fortune of managing a wonderful place.” Villani thanked all the institutions «in particular the Region and the president Marcus Marsilio who was the first to want this stage and all those who made themselves available, understanding the opportunity for our entire territory: if we work together the results will arrive”. A great celebration which also involved the neighboring municipalities, starting from Crognaleto where the caravan passed on the state road and where a panel was unveiled in Aprati with a photo of the circumstance which in 1935 led Gino Bartali to start the action that led him to victory in the Civitanova-L’Aquila stage. An initiative promoted by the mayor’s administration Orlando Persia at the instigation of the president of the CSI Angelo De Marcellis to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Sports Center and in the presence of the director of the Giro Mauro Vegni. Pink had illuminated the main points of the town since the evening before and colored Saturday in Montorio, chosen as the press headquarters and logistical base of the Giro. The former Zoccolanti convent was transformed by the mayor’s administration Fabio Altitonante in a large press room and in the city center where a giant monitor connected to the stage stood out, various initiatives were promoted such as the MTB gymkhana for children.
