Joe Biden did not try to “sit in a non-existent chair”

A video is circulating claiming that US President Joe Biden is trying to “sit on a non-existent chair”. The clip dates back to June 6, 2024 and shows the ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings during the Second World War. Next to him are French President Emmanuel Macron and their respective first ladies. This is false information, generated thanks to a video cut where the chair is seen and not only that.

For those in a hurry

  • Biden’s chair is clearly visible in the video, as are others of the people standing next to him.
  • The video is cut and ends just before the moment in which all the protagonists of the video sit down.

Analyses

The video was published on June 6, 2024 on Threads with the following description:

Joe Biden tries to sit on a non-existent chair. The wife warns him in time!!

The chairs can be seen

The users who shared the clip do not realize the actual presence of the chairs behind the two leaders and their wives.

The video is cut

All four present in the video had positioned themselves in front of their respective chairs, where they will then sit as we can see from the live video broadcast on the Youtube channel The Times and The Sunday Times:

The moment they sit down is clearly visible at minute 4:16:36 of the Youtube video:

Sharing on different social networks

The video also circulated on other social networks. Here is an example of sharing via Facebook:

US President Joe Biden tried to sit on a non-existent chair during an event celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy.

The text is the same published via Telegram by the War Real Time channel on 6 June 2024:

The video and narration also circulate on Twitter/X:

Biden tries to sit in invisible chair during Normandy event

Conclusions

It is totally false that Joe Biden is trying to “sit on a non-existent chair”. The video used to support the narrative is cut and does not show the moment in which he and the other protagonists sit in their respective chairs. These, in reality, can also be seen in the cut video.
