“For the great and essential commitment to the citizens of Novara every day and in particular during the pandemic period”. This is the motivation for the “Novara Città Sicura” award given by the Novara Ticino Lions Club to the Territorial Emergency Coordination 118.
Safe City Award 2024
The award was awarded during an evening held at the Air Force Officers’ Club of Il Villaggio Azzurro, in Veveri. The award was presented by the president of the Novara Ticino Lions Club Maurizio Leone.
Representing the Director of SC Territorial Health Emergency – 118 Novara – Azienda Sanitaria Zero Roberto Gioachinunable to participate, were present Salvatore Izzo: manager of the Simple Departmental Structure of the 118 Operations Center in Novara; Laura RubinoNursing Coordinator of the Operations Center 118 of Novara e Greta Carera, Nursing Coordinator of the Operations Center 118 of Novara. With them too Gianfranco Zulian director of the Prevention department and of the complex forensic medicine structure of the Novara Local Health Authority.
The activity of 118
The evening was an opportunity to provide some data relating to the activity of 118 in the Upper Piedmont quadrant: 60 affiliated voluntary associations, 18 emergency vehicles supplied, approximately 900 thousand users in the four provinces with an average of 80-90 thousand calls daily . The staff includes 120 nurses and 70 technicians. During the pandemic, calls have tripled.
Lions Novara Ticino had already awarded the 118th recognition in 2012, when it was only for the province of Novara
Recognition born in 2006
The “Novara Safe City” award, a recognition established in 2006 by the Novara Ticino Lions Club under the presidency of Giorgio Galli. As President Leone recalled, the recognition was originally reserved for the police forces working in the Novara area, then the concept of security was extended to the Rescue Corps and then to all those who deal with the safety of citizens in all fields.
