In Crotone reflections on new forms of active citizenship

In recent days at the Pythagoras Museum we talked and reflected on new forms of active citizenship, during the event entitled The role of participation in hostile contexts. A meeting, the one organized by Jobel Consortiumwhich was also the opportunity to present the first research report by Guido Memocreated by various southern universities, from Unical to the University of Bari, Palermo, Federico II of Naples, Sardinia and Molise.

The data analysis has highlighted significant growth in recent years in non-profit institutions, in particular in the third sector, in voluntary organizations and in social cooperatives. A recovery that has put the South in step with the other regions of the country in the creation of new realities: changes that are not to be taken for granted, since that marked gap in social and economic conditions remains to the detriment of the South and to the advantage of the other Italian regions which they had limited the Constitution.

In the South, in fact, there is a greater presence of NPIs whose aim is to support weak and/or people in difficulty, the promotion and protection of rights, the care of common goods, demonstrating the solidarity vocation of the sector .

This is a rapidly growing sector both in terms of the number of institutions, volunteers and employees, particularly in the Third Sector, taking on an important role in the field of social assistance, healthcare, care of common goods, in culture, fundamental for the growth and well-being of communities.

The debate – in which, in addition to Memo, they took part Filly Pollinzicouncilor for social policies of the Municipality of Crotone, Don Rino Le Pearparish priest of Santa Maria Madre della Chiesa, Bruno Tassonepresident of Auser Calabria, Alberta Colacinovice president of the Women’s Tertiary Group, Santo Vazzano And Francesco Perri of the Jobel Consortium – showed how the Southern Third Sector seems to have a greater social rooting and a greater solidarity characterization compared to the rest of the country, as attested by the data on five per thousand and those of the census with respect to the commitments of active citizenship.

«This event – we read in a note – confirmed that, even if still a little less present, southern organizations have had an intense growth, establishing themselves as agents of social and political innovation that promote new forms of active citizenship and produce new social capital and responsible ruling class”.
