The extraordinary season of Myenergy Reggio Calabria ends here.
For the fourth time in the season, the Reggio Calabria team gave way to the deserving Power Basket Salerno, which rightfully and with merit entered the PlayOff semi-final in search of a place in B1.
Forty-five minutes of emotions and twists characterized the last one of the year for President Laganà’s team.
An important year from a corporate point of view, thanks to the arrival of the “Title Sponsor” Myenergy and from a sporting point of view, considering that this group amazed, thrilled, subverted the predictions of the day before and “re” involved the Reggio public, always richer and more passionate with leading figures in the category.
Coach Cigarini recovers Captain Binelli but has to do without Mavric.
Tonic first quarter for Reggio who try to “escape” with Seck and thanks to Cessel’s triples.
Salerno doesn’t give up and holds their own with triples from Basile and Chavez.
The plot is always the same even in the second quarter: Reggi in mini sprint, Chavez and co, attached to the match. The most important moment of the first part of the match came at half-time thanks to a stellar triple from midfield by captain Thomas Binelli (41-35).
In the third quarter, Salerno starts much better: Chavez is the MVP of the match and the leader of his team and scores an equalizer and overtakes.
Reggio, with Aguzzoli in evidence (four points in sequence) reacts and regains a mini-advantage (plus four at the end of the quarter).
The plot is also the same in the fourth period: Myenergy with the will to win (Simonietti, Cessel and Seck did very well), and ahead thanks to Binelli’s triples, Salerno ready to return.
The ankle injury suffered by Thomas Aguzzoli weighs heavily on the economy of the match: in the long run, it was decisive for the away victory.
The final back-and-forth seems to smile on Reggio’s team, until Chavez’s decisive tap-in three seconds from time. Reggio fails to score the winning basket and it goes to overtime.
In extra time, a triple from Mei and one from Chavez lead the match.
Myenergy is tired and will not be able to recover again.
The applause is a must for the locals, Power Basket Salerno, but they win the match and the series dreaming of B1.
