A weekend dedicated to the cultural heritage of the Marche’s museums: the Grand Tour Museums returns, from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th. In particular, Saturday 18th May is International Museum Day, for which this year’s theme, indicated by Icom, is “Museums, education and research”. With this we want to underline how museums are also dynamic educational institutions which, by promoting learning and cultural enrichment, pursue the objective of the total well-being of the person.

The initiatives

Many initiatives are planned throughout the region. From north to south there are events in all provinces. Pesaro offers a traveling event between the Oliverano archaeological museum in Pesaro and the Novilara castle on Saturday 18th starting from 5pm. We start with a visit to the museum and the Picene huts, and then move on, at 7pm, to the castle where there will be an exhibition of tools and foods and a conference will talk about beauty in antiquity. Also in Pesaro, the Rossini national museum offers a guided tour (18 May at 9pm) dedicated to Rossini’s meetings with the greats of his time. Also at the Rossini (7 pm at 4 pm) appointment with “Masterpieces on stage”: the visit will be dedicated to the Gazza Ladra. In Urbino, initiatives in the oratory of the Grotta-Cathedral (Saturday at 5.30 pm) and at the Collegio Raffaello (Saturday at 9 pm), with the opening of “Raphael Urbinas”. In Ancona, the protagonist is the archaeological museum of the Marche, with multi-sensory itineraries intended for the little ones and the presentation, on Saturday at 5pm, of Michele Polverari’s book “The city in construction site. Ancona 1944-60”. Extraordinary opening of the museum, from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, again on Saturday 18th, for museum night. Night of the museums, Saturday, also at Villino Romualdo in Trecastelli (from 7.30 pm), at the Risorgimento museum in Castelfidardo (from 9 pm), at the civic museums of Palazzo Pianetti and at the museum of printing arts, both in Jesi (at 21), at the diocesan art gallery of Senigallia (9 pm).

The night visit

On the night of the museums, Saturday 18th, and here we descend into the Macerata area, extraordinary opening of the museum of Palazzo Lazzarini in Morrovalle (from 4pm), events in San Severino Marche where two different itineraries are proposed (from 8pm) and at the Miumor of Tolentino ( from 9.15pm). Night-time guided tour also of the Sferisterio of Macerata starting from 9pm on Saturday and, again in Macerata, the museums of Palazzo Buonaccorsi and the civic tower also remain open until 11pm. In the Fermo area the protagonists are the capital and Sant’Elpidio a Mare. In Fermo, at Palazzo dei Priori, the book “Miraggi. Frammenti di mare” by Stella Sacchini (Friday 17th at 4.30 pm), while starting from 8 pm on Saturday 18th there will be a guided tour of Antonio Ligabue’s exhibition and a body painting performance themed on Ligabue’s beasts and yoga on Sunday in the 17th century room.

Crivelli’s works

Guided tours on Saturday and Sunday from 9.30pm to Crivelli’s works kept in the Sant’Elpidio a Mare museum. In Ascoli Piceno events are organized in the Francesco “Antonio Marcucci” library museum (17, 18 and 19 May from 4.30 pm), in the ceramic art museums, the Licini contemporary art gallery and the civic art gallery (at 4.30 pm of the three days), and on Saturday at 5.30 pm in the state archaeological museum. Night of the museums on Saturday also at the pajarola museum, at the medieval fortress of Acquaviva Picena and in the museums of Grottammare.
