PERUGIA – Broken Pilomats and inconvenience for residents due to motorists who defy the bans and park where they cannot. It happens above all in Via del Circo, but malfunctions that have been going on for days also occur in Via Marzia, the latter however protected for part of the day by the camera gate in Via Baglioni.
In the historic center it is an old story that repeats itself that of the pilamats that don’t work. A problem that influenced the Municipality’s recent choice to replace mobile bollards with gates equipped with cameras, thus forming the new mini limited traffic zones, which recently came into force. But if most of the pilamats have left the scene, those that remain operational are causing problems and residents are raising their voices. In Via del Circo, for example, those who live near the pilamat say that it hasn’t worked since April 23rd. The always lowered column has led day after day various motorists to defy the bans and park where they cannot.
“We encounter inconveniences especially in the morning, as there is no passage, people enter,” a resident of the Piazza del Circo area tells Il Messaggero. There, as stated on the sign posted at the entrance to the area, there is a ban on transit with the exclusion of residents of the restricted traffic zone number 5, vehicles of public interest and professional firms based in via del Circo. But the malfunction of the pilamat, despite the sign, increases the number of accesses and the inconvenience for the residents grows accordingly, given the limited space in the area.
HERE VIA MARZIA

Even in via Marzia, in the access from via Baglioni, the pilamat hasn’t worked for days. Those who pass there every day explain that the last correct operation dates back to April 28th. Then nothing more. It must be kept in mind that that access is preceded by the gate with cameras in via Baglioni, active from midnight to 1pm (Monday-Friday), while on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays it is operational from midnight to 7am. On these days, outside the hours of operation of the camera, cars appear without permission along via Marzia, despite it being protected at the exit from a second gate with a PILOMAT. This too often caused problems, with remote control users forced to wait for another exiting motorist.
This is what the reports of the last few days tell us, all linked to a problem that has taken center stage several times in the past throughout the acropolis.
THE SCENERY

The malfunctions of the electronic gates were part of the decision to abolish the posts and install gates with cameras in various areas. So we went to the internal area of Viale Indipendenza (the one that goes towards Sant’Ercolano). This is one of the new mini ZTLs that have just come into force. The map includes the new pedestrian area of via dei Priori (lower part) at the intersection with via della Stella and piazzetta Santo Stefano, via Bontempi and on the route parallel to viale Sant’Antonio, which extends up to via del Melo (with entrance and exit from viale Sant’Antonio). It was part of the plan (costing 70 thousand euros) but the extension of the restricted traffic zone in via Campo Battaglia to the stretch of via del Mercato Coperto, between the Miles Davis roundabout and via Campo Battaglia itself, was postponed. Another front where access and parking problems have arisen several times over time.
