Moments of tension Between pro-Palestine demonstrators and police officers lined up in front of the entrance to the Turin Book Fair this afternoon, Saturday 11 May.
Someone hundreds of activists gathered near the Lingotto, where the demonstration is taking place, to participate in the protest organized by ‘Turin for Gaza’ entitled ‘All eyes on Rafah‘: the student collectives, the Askatasuna social center, the Arab community of the Piedmontese capital were present.

“Today Turin is back in the streets to ask for a Immediate military embargo on Israel. We want our governments to stop sending weapons and legitimizing this political force at home. Today we are here for the anniversary of the Nakba alongside the Palestinian people for their victory and resistance,” the protesters said.

“We fight for Palestine for a more just future for all the people of the world. The Meloni government, in line with Atlantic directives, continues to legitimize the massacre after the latest news of the military operation in Rafah and to ask for an immediate ceasefire and the Italian government’s military embargo on Israel”, they added.
The demonstrators were initially allowed to reach the barriers positioned in front of the ticket offices, where they were lined up officers in riot gear. Then the people who were taking part in the procession stopped clash with the riot squadshortly after 5pm, in an attempt to break down the barriers and enter.

After a short negotiation with the organizers of the Show, they were allowed to bring inside a couple of flags, but the protesters considered it insufficient and are asking to be able to freely access the event. The situation therefore remains at the moment in progress.
Meanwhile, the cartoonist Zero limestone and the writer Christian Raimo, together with other cultural and publishing workers, they left the Salon, interrupting the events that were taking place inside, to reach the demonstrators and show them solidarity.
“We are delegations of cultural workers and we could not remain indifferent while outside those who protested were beaten with truncheons. A space that deals with culture he can’t leave out the storybecause we should all be held accountable for what has been happening in Gaza for a long time”, said Zerocalcare abroad at the Salone.
